LMS Water Gauge Protector (SOLD)

This glass water gauge protector was used on the backhead of the loco boiler to wrap around the water gauge glass tube and offer some protection to the footplate crew in the eventuality of the pipe shattering under full boiler pressure. This lovely example has been lightly cleaned only and is clearly stamped 'LMS' twice and '5555' on the opposite end of the body. Locomotive No.5555 was a William Stanier design Jubilee class 4-6-0 named 'Quebec' and constructed at Crewe Works on 18.06.1934. The locomotive last worked out of Crewe South shed 5B from where she was withdrawn on 17.08.1963 to be later cut up at Crewe Works on 30.09.1963. L: 155mm W: 95mm
