Avro Vulcan Constant Speed Drive Unit.

Description

A very rare cockpit control from a cold war Vulcan ‘V Bomber’ in as removed from aircraft condition. The Constant Speed Drive Unit (CSDU) controls were a critical component of the aircraft's advanced 200V AC electrical system. The Vulcan B.2 featured a four-engine setup where each Bristol Olympus engine drove an alternator. Because engine RPM fluctuates dramatically during flight, the hydromechanical CSDU was placed between each engine accessory gearbox and its respective alternator to keep the alternator spinning at a precise, fixed RPM, ensuring a stable 3-phase, AC power supply across the aircraft's main electrical systems.
